An enduring and vital pulse

In this issue Rector Niki Boytchuk-Hale writes eloquently about the John Deutsch University Centre, the JDUC, which recently reopened after several years undergoing renovation. Niki notes that it is “a place where the pulse of campus life can be felt in its purest form.” Few would disagree, and that pulse was easy to feel when donors, friends, and current members of the university community gathered on a sunny morning in September to celebrate the return of life to the building.

Queen’s is taking part in Towards Zero Hunger: A Global Dialogue, a webinar series organized by the International Association of Universities (IAU) . The series highlights innovative practices that help end hunger, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture in alignment with UN SDG 2. The next session, PEACH Market – Providing Equal Access, Changing Hunger, takes place on October 30 and will be led by Theresa Couto, Registered Dietitian and Wellness and Sustainability Manager in Housing and Ancillary Services, Student Affairs.

PEACH is a ‘pay-what-you-can’ market program that launched on Queen's campus in September 2022. It aims to create an inclusive space for students that provides dignified and equitable access to nutritious food and removes the stigma around food insecurity. It is a shared initiative between Student Affairs and the Alma Mater Society, complementing other food access programs on campus to support students, staff, and faculty, such as the , Swipe it Forward, and Fresh Food Boxes. &ČÔČúČő±è;
